“Verified” just means that you are who you say you are. Thats it. The blue checkmark is only saying this person is legitimately who they claim to be.
Recently Twitter has been trying to tighten on rules, and while while verified means is changing, there are still an enormous number of accounts who are verified under previous rules.
The ask for global mega-corporations who operate largely without any oversight to start policing language, and to determine what speech is and is not allowed is horrifying. I’m no fan of neo-nazi nutjobs, but I really do not want people like Dorsey, Zuckerberg, and Bezos to be the gatekeepers of speech.
